EASY RIDER

PURSUIT’S NEW C310 RIDES SOFT AND DRY

By Karl Anderson

This center console boat is not your uncle’s old-school Pursuit. With an incredibly soft ride, a full list of well executed fishing features, proven composite construction technology and a company track record of building top-quality boats, Pursuit has launched an all new 31-foot center console that begs to be fishing the edge somewhere. Inside and out, the new C310 embodies all that Pursuit as a company has stood for over the years: excellent fiberglass work, a clean layout, plenty of storage, quality hardware, detailed rigging execution and a new hull that is even drier than previous models, turns without slip and planes easily.

The C310 has the looks of its big sister, Pursuit’s flagship C340, a 34-foot center console with a serious slant for offshore fishing. The C310 is easily recognizable from afar, with a shearline that is pleasing to look at while keeping the proportions of the boat in line with her big sister. Based on a 24.5-degree deadrise bottom, the running surface provides a good ride in sloppy conditions and when fishing, she’ll troll clean and lay-to with excellent lateral stability, even when drifting.

Powered with twin 250HP Yamaha F250 four-stroke outboards, the C310 is a fine performer with respectable speed and fuel burn efficiencies. I ran the new C310 out of Ft. Pierce, Florida, on a windy October afternoon, and immediately enjoyed the handling and responsive feel of the boat. Offering a fuel capacity of 260 gallons, we carried 220 gallons and 20 gallons of water on board for our ride.

At 4500 rpm we reached 39 mph with a fuel burn of only 25.8 gph, and that proved to be the sweet spot for the most efficient speed related to overall range and economy. Topping 51mph at wide-open throttle, the C310 burned 42.7 gph.

Walking through the boat, everything is beefy and solid. The foredeck and gunwales feature pull-up cleats, fuel, and water fills, keeping things snag free for fishing and walking around. The anchor locker is on the foredeck of the bow for easy access, yet the anchor is deployed through a hull chute in the bow stem with a receiver for the anchor inside the locker that offers an optional windlass with remote.

A recessed handrail wraps around the bow section with standard coaming bolters below the rail that go 360 degrees around the boat. U-shaped forward seating features self-draining insulated storage with rod racks on both sides. A huge in-deck storage bin features a drainage control system that takes water from the gutter and carries it to an automatic sump system that keeps the bilge compartment dry.

A newly designed low profile console offers excellent visibility, proper toe kick and built-in footrest. The dash has plenty of room for two large screens and Yamaha Command Link gauges, two 12-volt receptacles, remote control pad for the standard Clarion AM/FM stereo & CD, and is shielded by a Plexiglas windshield. There are also tackle lockers under the helm. The forward console bench seat serves as an insulted drink box. Access to inside the fully finished console is through a large bi-fold door in the starboard side that reveals a moldedin sink, and our boat was rigged with an optional electric head; a Raritan manual head is standard.

The leaning post is packed with features including two comfortable bolster-style seats with four rocket launcher rod holders across the back. Under the bolster seats is a fully functional 52-gallon recirculating livewell that is colored Oceana blue to keep the bait happy during their final moments.

The cockpit fishing amenities include four stainless gunwale mount rod holders, two insulated in-deck fish boxes with macerator pump-out and overboard drain. Along the aft bulkhead is a slide-out tackle center, an insulated transom fish box, and a bait prep station with molded rigging cutouts and cutting board. A walk-thru transom door offers access to the swim platform with its concealed slide-out boarding ladder neatly tucked away under a lift up deck panel so it’s easy to clean, but not necessary to open to deploy the ladder.

A large lazarette in the cockpit along the centerline of the aft bulkhead offers access to a wonderfully executed system of pumps and plumbing. All components are easily accessed and serviced due to the thoughtful design.

The solid feel of the C310 comes from stout construction. With cored hull sides and decks for stiffness and weight control, a one-piece molded stringer system that’s fully bonded to the hull with a premium methacrylate adhesive, and the one piece deck liner, the boat comes together as strong, solid, and quiet riding.

Make no mistake, the new Pursuit C310 is a well-appointed fishing boat that has the looks and technical refinements to get to the grounds and keep you in the fish. With a selection of hull colors available, the C310 can be dialed-in to your liking and taken anywhere the fish are, by land or by sea.
